COVID-19 care coverage will change as the Public Health Emergency (PHE) ends.

During the federal COVID-19 PHE, plans temporarily expanded benefit coverage for COVID-19 related services during this public health emergency. The PHE ends May 11, 2023, and this will affect how COVID-19 vaccines, testing, treatment, and services are provided under your current plan.

Below is a summary of those changes:

  • COVID-19 vaccines, including boosters are considered preventive care and will be covered by most health plans at no cost if using an in-network provider.
  • COVID-19 treatments (oral and injection) prescribed by an in-network provider will be provided the same way as other plan benefits. Cost sharing may apply.
  • COVID-19 testing
    • Over-the-counter COVID-19 tests - will no longer be covered in most cases and will be an out-of-pocket expense.
    • COVID-19 laboratory testing - please check with your plan administrator on coverage. The use of an in-network provider and out-of-pocket costs may apply.
  • Telehealth services -- please check with your plan administrator on coverage. The use of an in-network provider and out-of-pocket costs may apply.
  • In some instances, pre-authorizations may apply.

Note that actual coverage may vary depending on your plan. Please reach out to your plan administrator for questions.
